Victoria Police investigate death at Stawell Motor Sports Club speedway

An 18-year-old spectator has died after being struck by a car at a regional speedway more than 200km west north west of Melbourne.

The vehicle, driven by a 28-year-old man from Wendouree, allegedly struck the spectator during the Loo5enats burnout competition at the Stawell Motor Sports Club about 4.20pm on Saturday.

The driver was initially arrested by police but has since been released pending further inquiries.

Victorian Police state officers are working to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and investigations remain ongoing.

The vehicle allegedly struck the spectator at the speedway on Burrong Basin Rd, Stawell.

Police are urging anyone who saw the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage or information to contact Crime Stoppers.

The Northern Grampians town is 237 kilometres west-north-west of Melbourne.

Stawell Motor Sports Club and Loo5enuts have been contacted.

There has been 238 lives lost on Victorian roads in 2023.
