Edith on her breakthrough EP, influences and exam stress

Earlier this week, CelebMix introduced you to Edith and her superb debut EP

Sultry synths and a stunning fresh sound, it’s easy to understand the hype the young artist is gathering. Now, the breakthrough electropop voice chats about everything behind her landmark release, electropop influences and coping with exam pressures as a youngster.

Q: Hey Edith, thanks for taking the time to chat with CelebMix. What are you up to today?

A: Hey, no worries, my pleasure. Actually not much, probably advertising my EP as much as possible and then working on some new songs.

Q: Congratulations on the release of your debut self-titled EP. We are big fans here at CelebMix! How does it feel to finally have it out in the world?

A: Thank you so much. Honestly, it feels amazing, I have been waiting so long for this and it’s finally happening, it feels unreal.

Q: You’ve got quite a few different sounds on the EP. Is that something you really wanted to go for?

A: I never really had a set sound in mind when I started the EP. I kinda just went with what I thought would work better for each song, and also every song having a different story, I that to be portrayed by the sound.

Q: ‘Afterparty’ is still one of our favourites. Are there any of the songs which stand out for yourself?

A: Thank you so much. My personal favourite one is ‘All I Had’, because I just love the story and I remember how good I felt about the situation once I finished that song. I also think it has a very unique dreamy sound, which I personally love.

Q: You’ve drawn comparisons with the likes of Dua Lipa and LANY already. Who inspires your music?

I think there isn’t one artist specifically that inspires my music. With LANY, I love the sound of their entire album and also the honesty of their lyrics. On the other hand artists such as Lauv, also inspire the sound of my music.

Q: You’ve chosen a big week for pop music to release the EP with Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Charli XCX, Cheryl and more all releasing tracks too. Are there any of those singles you’re particularly excited to hear?

A: I never thought of that when choosing the date of release for my music haha, but I am excited to hear Charli XCX and Miley Cyrus, they are definitely going to release something amazing.

Q: You’ve found your own sound so quickly as a new artist. How do your tracks normally come about?

A: I usually write my songs on guitar or piano, so they are always very acoustic to start with. Then when I go into the studio and play with all the sounds, I figure out what way the track will go.

Q: You’re still a relatively new face on the scene, how would you describe your music to new fans?

A: I would say it’s very honest and easy to listen to, I would also say people could relate to my stories. Or maybe not, I don’t know for sure, but I hope so!

Q: Can fans catch the EP at any live shows in the near future?

A: Yes of course! I will be playing a live gig at the Soho House on the 3rd of June. Not long now!!!

Q: Finally, we best leave you to get back to exam preparation, good luck! Any tips for other students at this time of the year?

A: I have personally finished my exams so I am very excited for the summer. I would advise that they focus on what they know, not what they don’t, it’s about smart revision not loads of it. Work hard now and have a nice summer later!!! Not long now!!
